Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
Why did James say this?
Because he had earlier said:
Blessed is the man that endures temptation, trial and trouble: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love Him.
Let no man say when he is troubled or tempted, I am troubled of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, with trouble, with trial, neither tempteth He any man:
But every man is troubled, tempted and tried when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin when it is finished brings forth death.
Do not err, ( do not speak in error), my beloved brethren.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Variableness or shadow of turning means that God changes not, that He is not all of a sudden decided that He will send us evil gifts or trouble.
God The Father troubles the trouble of His children and He rewards us double.
Amen.
The Lord Jesus said that we would have trouble in this world but to be of good cheer because He had overcome it.
HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS SAYING.
In the beginning in Genesis 3
God placed this information in Adam and it was Adams responsibility to teach this to Eve.
Be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
There is a reason behind this.
Adam failed to teach Eve this lesson.
It was Adams responsibility to teach Eve and then the two would go on to teach all of their offspring.
HEAR THIS
Genesis 3:1
The serpent is being used of the devil for his subtle character in order to speak to Eve,
And he said unto the woman, Hey, has God said you shouldn't eat of every tree of the garden?
Now this is where being quick to hear and slow to speak which are instructions from God would have been a benefit to her and to us all.
But Eve spoke quickly and immediately.
(Husbands, love, pray for and instruct your wives as Christ loves, prays for and instructs the church)
She responded quick without hearing because she hadn't been taught otherwise by the one who God had created her for.
You can't be a help meet to your husband if you haven't learned how to listen.
Do you know any women like this?
Who get into conversations about things which they know nothing about, who participate in rumors and gossip, who judge men publically whom they have never met, Christian women?
PRAY
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it lest you die.
[The serpent goes on to directly come against what God has said,] saying to the woman,
"You shall not surely die: For God surely knows that in the day that you eat of this tree, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."
Ladies what we have here is a woman who believes that someone has brought some new revelation.
Saying something that God did not say.
And Eve spoke up saying "Preach brother!"
Girls, I don't care if it rhymes if it ain't written it's rattling and not from our Father.
So listening she was, but instead of being swift to hear, she got angry at the thought that the Father would deny her something.
Something clever that sounded good, sounded church and looked good, looked church was introduced.
And because she was slow to hear, quick to speak and quick to get angry...
She started talking.
Pay attention.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat.
When she got angry at God she rebelled against His Word.
HEAR THIS
How is it that this woman came to be angry with God?
1. Her husband had not taught her what the Father had taught him. He was standing right there with her being swift to hear, slow to speak ( so slow in fact that he didn't open his mouth at all) and slow to wrath.
because The man had been taught by God to listen quicker than to speak or get angry.
2. Some slickster said something that made Eve believe that all the good gifts hadn't been given to her already.
Daughters, this is a very important lesson because she confused revelation with manipulation and this caused her to debate the issue.
Anger ensued and then rebellion, not from a group, but from God Himself.
I make it a habit by the instruction of my husband to not listen to or watch certain things.
He guards me from hearing anything destructive to my spirit.
He has also taught me not to entertain an accusation or have men or women who don't esteem my God or me in my face.
But because Adam failed to do that with Eve.
This is when the fall took place, sin and shame entered in and they were uncovered and knew that they were naked.
Robes off.
The LORD goes on to ask who told you that you were naked?
Guess who speaks up immediately now?
Adam does, saying,
The woman that you gave me did this, she gave me from the tree and I did eat.
So the Lord says to her, what have you done?
The woman replied, "the serpent deceived me and I did eat."
The LORD begins by first dealing with the serpent and curses him to the ground to crawl on his belly and eat dust all the days of his life.
The The Father speaks to the woman and says I will put emnity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed: it shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel.
Father said that He would greatly increase the her pain in childbirth and that the husband would rule over her.
Prior to sin this must not have been an issue.
This is where the Apostle Paul got the idea that a woman could not teach her husband or speak in the synagogue.
But Jesus came and gave ministry unto women.
In Luke 10:40-43
As Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, her sister Martha is angry and in her anger speaks harshly to the Lord, saying," Lord don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?"
Jesus says to her, Martha, Martha" You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed and Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
Sitting at the Lord's feet being taught to be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath.
It was Mary and the women who The Lord revealed Himself to after He had risen and these women ran and told the others.
So at the very time when all looked dim if you are swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath you can hear that The Father immediately promised to keep the devil under foot and set the order for man to be redeemed at that moment.
He was spoke the promise of Jesus Christ that moment to Eve when He told her that the seed of the woman would bruise the head of the enemy.Do you really know the God that you serve or are you listening to some entertainment that gets you stirred emotionally?
Have you really surrendered all?
Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath...
Let's look at how Jesus demonstrated this in Matthew chapter 4 After He was baptized, He was then led up of the Spirit to be troubled of the devil.
Look at how The Saviour was swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath, He was so slow to wrath that He didn't get angry at all.
because emotions like anger cause you to rebel against God The Father.
Therefore, Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath:
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
James 1:19,20
The wrath of man.
James 4:1-3
The Lord Jesus knew that the trouble and the trial was not coming from His Father.
Therefore when these suggestions of the devil are presented to Him like,
Turn this stone into bread.
The Lord responds not by saying what sounds clever or could get a hand clap, but by saying what is written.
The devil wanted Christ to perform miracles for him and before God's ordained time for Him to do it.
That would have put Him in a place of rebellion.
You know how Moses got angry and struck that rock and then he didn't go in with everyone else?
So you can't listen to the world and it's opinion, you can't listen to people in the church all the time and their opinion, you have to listen to the Father.
Man does not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from the mouth of God.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word Of God.
You have to train your ear to what Father is saying.
If it's not written beware of it.
HEAR THIS
Because Jesus Christ is submitted to the truth of what has been written
(that it is not His Father who is causing Him to be pressed,) He by the Holy Spirit that is in Him is able to resist the devil in His fleshly body and the devil has no choice but to flee from Him.
Christ had surrendered all to this truth.
He was cooperating with what God had said instead of the suggestion of the enemy.
Keeping the devil under His feet.
Get thee behind me satan.
It's God's Grace that is sufficient in the time of weakness, trial and trouble.
It is His Grace that strengthens us.
How do you think that The Lord in the form of a man could say what was written?
He had studied the scriptures as a child and as a man, and been baptised in water and by the Holy Spirit of God. "The Mantle"
He was openly ordained of God who spoke out of heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."
God is not the trouble nor does He bring it, but God will finish it.
The Father sent the angels that came and ministered to His Son after He was troubled and withstood it.
Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath...
There has been talk among men of a great awakening or a need for a revival.
If you studied revival or the history of 'A Great Awakening'
There was division.
The division was between those who preached hell fire and brimstone and the works and deeds of the law, versus those who preached God's Grace.
Jesus said,
Do you think that I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.
From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three.
Luke 12:51
Listen
When Jesus told Peter that He had to go away, Peter told Him no, it shall not be.
Jesus spoke to Peter and He said Get thee behind me satan.
Many believe that they can prevent what God has already spoken from coming to pass.
They believe that they will stop what has been prophesied.
They believe that the natural government has some power above God so they attack the things of the government instead of praying as God instructs.
They preach end times and then believe that they can stop those times in a voting booth.
They speak of the integrity of the history of America and it's historic documents omitting to share that one of it's most prolific writers died in debt owning slaves and that his goal and the other clergy involved was to draft a document that would make them appear to be righteous while not interfering with their free labour from slaves.
These men would have been taxed on every slave that they owned because real men of God saw it as a sin to own human beings.
Abolitionist's believed that by calling slavery what it was, "a sin" and taxing it, that men who called them selves Christians would be shamed and free the slaves.
Not when it comes to the deceitfulness of riches.
Taxing worked for liquor for about five seconds and then you had people making their own and when the government couldn't tax it, they make it illegal.
The thinking men made sure that this sort of thing wouldn't work for slaves.
So the many clergy and other men in government especially those up North whose wealth had been built on the backs of enslaved men just as much as those on Southern plantations had got together and drafted something that said what they were doing is not a sin and masked it as some breaking away from a different rule.
They did fight ( because how seriously against this would you look without a war to authenticate your cause?) men died fighting for this and these men up North still owned slaves.
We have been taught that it was just Southern men who were adamantly opposed to slavery being abolished, not true.
So many if they could have an industry built, huge mansions, autos, servants, opulent lifestyles furnished by the work on someone else would take it.
If they could bank on all of these things being passed on as a legacy to their children with free labour would jump to support some sort of law that would permit them to stand on the backs of men to get it.
It was the smart slick, thinking men of ingenuity up North who knew how to coin a phrase that helped to hold men down for many years to come.
Study it out because you are never under any obligation to just take my word,
because I don't just take in any and everything that I hear either.
All the enemy has to do is play to the ignorance or ego of men and they will follow him.
I have no desire that any follow me personally.
I pray that you do however follow God, The Lord Jesus Christ , The Holy Spirit of God and all truth as it is written in Holy Scripture.
It was by the stripes on the back of Jesus Christ and Him alone that those who have made Him Lord of their life obtain salvation, wealth, health.
The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just.
Be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath...
Because our fight is faith.
Our submission and surrender is to the truth of God's Word and what Christ has done for us.
