Praise the Lord for His Word.
1John 4 teaches the children of God to prove the people who claim to be of God, because many folks are professing Christ yet they are of the world.
The reason you need to be aware of false testimony and deceit is because they are used by the enemy.
And if you are allowing them access to your heart and soul you are allowing the enemy access to those areas.
1John 4:5,6 says:
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us.
Hereby we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
This is not talking about deciding whether a man belongs to God based on him agreeing with our own personal opinion.
The way you know who is of God is based on who listens to and agrees with God's Word as being truth.
Prove the people by the Word and protect your own soul.
