What is it that prevents the average Christian from seriously seeking to study God's Word for them selves?

Hearing that it isn't their job to do so.

People won't assert themselves to do what they have been convinced someone else is supposed to do or will do for them.

It's like if I continually pick up after my children without teaching them how to do it for them selves, they will always believe that they can leave their clothes on the bathroom floor after a shower instead of placing them in the hamper.

The Bible teaches us that whatsoever things that were written aforetime were written for OUR learning, that WE through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

OUR and WE.

What the LORD wants us to understand as a whole and especially as individuals is that He rewards those who diligently seek Him and seek Him first.

The reward of faith in His Word is obtained through you seeking to hear what God is saying and has said.

Matthew 6:33
Hebrews 11:6

If you believe that God is, and that He is who He says He is and that He will do what He said He will do, I pray that you set out to seek Him and what He has said above everyone and anything else.

You taking the step to actually seek The LORD in His Word is how you begin to develop the faith that trusts God is and God will.

Because 10 million people can be wrong if what they have heard and are believing is wrong.
Jesus is the light of the world and the only way to God.
